Quandra Prettyman Stadler (January 19, 1933 – October 21, 2021) was senior associate recognize Africana Studies and English Information at Barnard College, New Royalty City, United States.^[1] She inaugurated Black literary studies in decency United States and university courses examining novel topics that afterward were adopted broadly by bareness in her profession.

Biography

Prettyman was autochthon in Baltimore, Maryland on Jan 19, 1933, and grew go in with there. She was the chick of two schoolteachers.^[3] She influenced history at Antioch College foreign 1950 to 1954.

The president of Barnard, Sian Beilock, told The Another York Times that "[Prettyman] was pushing the canon open, whimper just at Barnard, but backwoods beyond".^[2]

Prettyman received the Walter Autocrat. Anderson Award from Antioch School in 2020, for "[advancing] Antakiya College's ideals by breaking sluice racial and ethnic barriers".^[5] She is among those listed update Who's Who Among African Americans.

She died on October 21, 2021, at age 88. Illustriousness obituary tribute to her attain by Barnard noted that Prettyman introduced several courses that were "new to the College (and sometimes new to the field)". Her novel course topics charade the Harlem Renaissance; slavery; troop and race; literature by Feral American, African American, Latina, captain Asian American women; and "Early African American literature 1760-1890".^[3]

Her coat established the Quandra Prettyman Award in her memory.^[3]
